The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.

Our Commentary on Verse 004 of Thomas Gospel.

These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.

Gospel of Thomas Saying 4 - They will become One.
Jesus said, "The man old in days will not hesitate to ask a small child seven days old about the place of life, and he will live. For many who are first will become last, and they will become one and the same.”

"The man old in days will not hesitate to ask a small child seven days old about the place of life"
"The man old in days"   and   "the child seven days old"  both originate from the same timeless singularity of existence. Nothing else exists. Being timeless, there is no first or last. Eventually, on experiencing the death of the body, both will seek, in consciousness, the way to return to that singularity. Where they both, once again "will become one and the same"

This singularity of existence is absolutely all knowledge forming absolutely all consciousness. It is divine consciousness which supports the experience of many lives.

"and he will live. For many who are first will become last, and they will become one and the same.”
The man "old in days" seeks to discover the higher truth of his existence. This truth has to be realised in consciousness because it was his original conscious desire to experience the world that led to his birth. In order to find his way back home to   "the place of life,"   the singularity of existence, or the Absolute, or God, he has to become consciously aware of this truth. But, both the  first and last  to achieve this realisation become   "one and the same."
The divine singularity of all existence is timeless, immortal.  "and he will live."
