The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.
Our Commentary on Verse 007 of Thomas Gospel.
These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.
Gospel of Thomas Saying 7 - The lion and the human being.
Jesus said, "Blessed is the lion which becomes man when consumed by man; and cursed is the man whom the lion consumes, and the lion becomes man."
Jesus said, "Blessed is the lion which becomes man when consumed by man”
It is our ego “the lion” that consumes us because it believes it is who we are. Existing in the mind deluded by duality the ego protects itself from others. It seeks gain over others for self-protection and seeks to promote an appearance of social superiority. With a mind that is watched and maintained in stillness through conscious awareness, the ego can be controlled. That is the state of the ego that is “consumed by man” So our true being, the man, is blessed with a more conscious life.
“and cursed is the man whom the lion consumes, and the lion becomes man.”
The person who fails to watch and control his mind, loses his consciousness to this beast within. The ego moves quickly in it's own self-defence. The person becomes subservient “the lion consumes” to the ego.
Living under the false values of an ego that pretends to be us, "lion becomes man.” would a cursed.
Our true being, guided through the intuition of our heart, is stronger, braver, truer and more indominable than our ego.
