The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.

These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.
Gospel of Thomas Saying 10 - Jesus has cast fire.
Jesus said, "I have cast fire upon the world, and see, I am guarding it until it blazes."
Jesus came into the world to teach the highest truth of our existence. The world Jesus found was divided through the ignorance of duality. The seeking of power through religious control, and material greed. Dualistic minds become fearful when their ways of life are challenged by any new learning that has the strength of the truth.
Jesus’ teachings come from his higher knowledge and understanding. The divine truth in his words is plain to see. For all these reasons, Jesus’ teachings inflamed the fear and anger of the existing establishment "I have cast fire upon the world”
Jesus came with the truth, that is all. If the truth would have found a fertile enough place to grow and mature in the existing society then that would have happened. But, as Jesus understood, the One truth cannot flourish in a dualistic society.
When the flames of anger and contempt leapt up at him Jesus allowed the purging effect of his teachings to take their course. Jesus did not apologise to his detractors. In the face of growing personal danger Jesus continued his teaching “and see, I am guarding it until it blazes."
