The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.
Our Commentary on Verse 049 of Thomas Gospel.
These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.
Gospel of Thomas Saying 49 - Solitaries will find the kingdom.
Jesus said, "Blessed are the solitary and elect, for you will find the kingdom. For you are from it, and to it you will return."
"Blessed are the solitary and elect,”
The “solitary and elect,” are the those who through the divine reasoning power of heart and intuition they have awakened to the unreality of this world.
They have made a decision ( “elect” ) to forego worldly ambition in order to dedicate themselves to seeking higher knowledge of their existence. They seek enlightenment to find the path back home to unity with the Absolute or “the kingdom.”
The “solitary” stand in creation but hold on to nothing for their support. The instinct of the “solitary” is to pass the world by, as it were. They intuitively seek within to realise higher truth.
“for you will find the kingdom”
The ones that sets themself apart from the decaying material world to pursue everlasting truth, find their way back home to unity with the Absolute or “the kingdom.”
“For you are from it, and to it you will return.”
All and everything is “from it” “It” is the singularity of timeless existence which is Consciousness Absolute, or “the kingdom.”
