The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.

Our Commentary on Verse 046 of Thomas Gospel.

These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.

Gospel of Thomas Saying 46 - Realised ones are more exalted than John the Baptist.
Jesus said, "Among those born of women, from Adam until John the Baptist, there is no one so superior to John the Baptist that his eyes should not be lowered (before him). Yet I have said, whichever one of you comes to be a child will be acquainted with the kingdom and will become superior to John."

"Among those born of women, from Adam until John the Baptist”
All of us, all of mankind is born of women. This includes John the Baptist of course. All beings on this and all planets are mortal. Our forms had a physical beginning at birth and so our forms will have a physical end in death.
Even Adam, who symbolises immortal consciousness and bliss suffered a birth into this world due to the desire to experience worldly knowledge.

“there is no one so superior to John the Baptist that his eyes should not be lowered (before him).”
Jesus is identifying John the Baptist as a Realised Being. A realised being is one who has come into the full light of knowledge and understanding that sees the truth of the non-Dual divine singularity of consciousness that alone truly exists. This state of realisation is the ultimate goal of all who desire absolute truth and are tired of this material existence of desire and decay.
The meaning is, in this material world there can be non-higher than the God realised, here it is John the Baptist.

“Yet I have said, whichever one of you comes to be a child will be acquainted with the kingdom and will become superior to John."
Jesus has described John the Baptist as a person who has achieved the highest consciousness that any living being could aspire to. Jesus now describes a higher state of being that lets this world go and becomes one with the kingdom of divine consciousness Absolute, or God.
“whichever one of you comes to be a child” Jesus does not mean “childish”. Jesus means to have the qualities of a child. A child isn’t worldly nor does it have worldly desires. A child doesn’t plan for tomorrow but abides in this present moment. A child doesn’t seek wealth, fame, stature.
The being that becomes conscious of only the kingdom of the Absolute, will be like the child and have no remaining desires for this material world. Such a being transcends all living beings, "become superior to John."
