The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.

Our Commentary on Verse 085 of Thomas Gospel.

These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.

Gospel of Thomas saying 85 - Adam was not worthy of us.
Jesus said, "Adam came into being from a great power and a great wealth, but he did not become worthy of you. For had he been worthy, he would not have experienced death."

Jesus said, "Adam came into being from a great power and a great wealth”
Adam came into being from the Absolute or God. The Absolute or God is the Singularity of Absolute knowledge and consciousness.
The singularity of existence is Absolute power and wealth.

“but he did not become worthy of you.”
Symbolically, Adam had all his desires enabled through the power of the Absolute or God.
But, we are told in the scriptures that through his unworthy desire, Adam made manifest the forbidden fruits of worldly experience.
Howsoever one understands Jesus’ reference to Adam, Jesus has said it is desire for the world that causes our clinging to the world to continue.

“For had he been worthy, he would not have experienced death."
Jesus tells us that Adam desired to experience birth into the world. Therefore, Adam would also naturally experience death.
This world consists of death and decay. This world is as mortal as our bodies.
Jesus teaches us that the pursuit of worldly gain and its pleasures is unworthy of who we truly are.
Our true being is the unity of the singularity of the Absolute or God. Alone.
