The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.

Our Commentary on Verse 080 of Thomas Gospel.

These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.

Gospel of Thomas saying 80 - The world is like the body.
Jesus said, "He who has recognized the world has found the body, but he who has found the body is superior to the world."

Jesus said, "He who has recognized the world has found the body”
Here, to recognise the world is to see the world for what it is in reality.
Despite its size and complexity this world and all it contains is transient, mortal.
This world consists of names and forms only. Mere material that is itself decaying back to the dust of final entropy.
Our very bodies are raised up through birth from the dust of the material world and will return as dust once again.
To recognise the material world is to also recognise the body as the same material and mortal.

“but he who has found the body is superior to the world."
To have found the body is to recognise the body for what it is, mortal.
To recognise the body is to see that we are not this material body.
We are the immortal Conscious observer of this material body and knower of this material world.
We are “superior to the world."

ref. Luke 17:37, Matt 24:28.
