The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.

Our Commentary on Verse 102 of Thomas Gospel.

These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.

Gospel of Thomas Saying 102 - Pharisees impede nourishment.
Jesus said, "Woe to the pharisees, for they are like a dog sleeping in the manger of oxen, for neither does he eat nor does he let the oxen eat."

Jesus said, "Woe to the pharisees, for they are like a dog sleeping in the manger of oxen”,
The pharisees were the strict orthodox authority in that region, and they had fallen to using their authority for personal aggrandisement.
They were the religious authority and they kept the scriptures hidden from the people and preached their own interpretation.
This meant they prevented the people from reading the scriptures for themselves. The pharisees were also hostile to Jesus and tried to stop him preaching in public. Jesus forsaw sorrow and misery, "Woe to the pharisees" for their ignorance of the scriptues and their treatment of the people.

“for neither does he eat nor does he let the oxen eat."
The pharisees themselves interpreted the scriptures for their own gain without gaining any true knowledge themselves.
Just like the dog sleeping in the manger, the pharisees prevented the people from benefiting from the scriptures. At the same time the pharisees had no interest in searching the scriptures for their own higher understanding. Just as the dog in the manger had no interest in the oxen food.

ref. Luke 11:52, Matt 23:13.
