The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.
Our Commentary on Verse 113 of Thomas Gospel.
These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.
Gospel of Thomas Saying 113 - The kingdom is already spread over the earth.
His disciples said to him, "When will the kingdom come?" Jesus said, "It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be a matter of saying 'here it is' or 'there it is.' Rather, the kingdom of the father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it."
His disciples said to him, "When will the kingdom come?" Jesus said, "It will not come by waiting for it. It will not be a matter of saying 'here it is' or 'there it is.”
The disciples question suggests they expect to see the arrival of a ‘something’. They expect to
‘See’ a change around them.
Jesus tells them that it is not arriving from somewhere, nor are we travelling towards it. The kingdom is not separate from what isn’t a kingdom, there is no duality.
“Rather, the kingdom of the father is spread out upon the earth, and men do not see it."
Jesus’ description is that of the non-dual reality of existence.
The kingdom of the father is the singularity of existence.
Nothing else can exist apart from the kingdom of the father.
Our experience of birth into a material realm was enabled within absolute consciousness from absolute knowledge. The kingdom of the Father, or the Absolute, or God is this singularity of existence itself. “the kingdom of the father is spread out upon the earth”
“men do not see it," because we desired a life experience. The desired conscious experience of being born into the world caused consciousness being limited to duality. We are only conscious of the knowledge of this world.
But in truth, all that exists is the singularity of knowledge as conscious that is the father, or the Absolute or God.
Jesus came to us to teach this truth to us to enable our finding our way back home, in consciousness, to the kingdom of the father, or the Absolute or God.
