The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.
Our Commentary on Verse 024 of Thomas Gospel.
These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.
Gospel of Thomas saying 24 - A person of light enlightens the whole world.
His disciples said to him, "Show us the place where you are, since it is necessary for us to seek it."
He said to them, "Whoever has ears, let him hear. There is light within a man of light, and he lights up the whole world. If he does not shine, he is darkness."
The man or woman of light is the divine realised man. The light that shines from the realised comes from the divinity of this existence. The divine is the singularity of Consciousness Absolute, God.
”If he does not shine, he is darkness”
The man or woman of the material world is moved, as it were, through consciousness according to their desires. Although of the divine singularity of existence, these beings are nevertheless clouded ”he is in darkness” by material concerns and desires. Unlike the divine realised being who will have surrendered all clouds of desire for the world and are lit through their consciousness of the divine.
