The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.

Our Commentary on Verse 050 of Thomas Gospel.

These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.

Gospel of Thomas Saying 50 - We have come from the light of knowledge.
Jesus said, "If they say to you, 'Where did you come from?', say to them, 'We came from the light, the place where the light came into being on its own accord and established itself and became manifest through their image.' If they say to you, 'Is it you?', say, 'We are its children, we are the elect of the living father.' If they ask you, 'What is the sign of your father in you?', say to them, 'It is movement and stillness."

"If they say to you, 'Where did you come from?', say to them, 'We came from the light”
All that has ever truly existed is absolute Knowledge as Consciousness , (The Absolute or the father), because only that is timeless and immortal.
We all and all things are projected and supported, within consciousness, through the light of that knowledge.

"The place where the light came into being on its own accord and established itself”
Existence has always been, this is logical because nothing can come from nothing. Therefore, this existence had no beginning, it was uncaused, “came into being on its own accord”

“and became manifest through their image”
“their image”   means the image held in knowledge of all manifest phenomena. The knowledge or image of how a thing or being can be made manifest is held, in consciousness, as Absolute Knowledge. That is, all knowing Consciousness.

“If they say to you, 'Is it you?', say, 'We are its children, we are the elect of the living father.”
The Absolute is the singularity of existence, ( “Is it you”?  ) which is eternal consciousness, we are the projections, or "children"  of this consciousness.
We originally desired or elected to be born into this life experience.

If they ask you, 'What is the sign of your father in you?', say to them, 'It is movement and stillness."
The “father”   is Absolute Consciousness. The Absolute is the timeless, immortal, singularity of existence. It is the “stillness”   of knowledge of everything that has “movement,”   that is, all of existence.

We are projections in consciousness from Absolute knowledge. Our true being resides with the stillness of the Absolute ( "father."  ) But, our material form experiences movement, change and entropy, our material form is mortal.
