The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is extra to the canonical gospels in the New Testament of the bible. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in December 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate that the works were buried and hidden after the declaration of a strict canon of Christian scripture, where any works that were not selected for inclusion in the new testament were ordered to be destroyed. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and as late as 250 AD as a collection of sayings of Jesus.
Our Commentary on Verse 059 of Thomas Gospel.
These are the secret sayings which the living Jesus spoke and which Didymos Judas Thomas wrote down.
Gospel of Thomas Saying 59 - We should meditate on the one who is alive.
Jesus said, "Take heed of the living one while you are alive, lest you die and seek to see him and be unable to do so."
“Jesus said, "Take heed of the living one while you are alive,”
The time to seek the truth and purpose of this life is now. Jesus the teacher “the living one” is available to us now and seeks to impart all the knowledge and wisdom we need to find our way back home to unity with the Divine, God, or Absolute.
"lest you die and seek to see him and be unable to do so.”
Our desires are formed from our knowledge. Our hearts desires are known in consciousness. It is our desire that will guide our true being after the death of our body.
What we have learned in this life, while we were able to learn, will decide our path after death. After our death, the wisdom and guidance of Jesus or any other living sage may not be available.
